The Property Ombudsman
This independent body gives the consumer the right of redress against any associated sales or letting business who have failed to adhere to a strict Code of Conduct. The code considers every element of the process from valuation through to the move in. Tenants, landlords, vendors and buyers are all able to have their case looked at if they're not satisfied by the agents' own response to a complaint.
NALS – The National Approved Letting Scheme
This body aims to set a benchmark of standards for Letting businesses. They seek annual reviews by the company's banking and accounting representatives to confirm they're handling their clients' money in the correct way. They also ensure members have all the correct business insurances in place at the appropriate levels. As a consumer, you'll know that you're dealing with an appropriately vetted company.
Safe Agent is a kitemark standard for Letting Agents. It means that the business has paid an insurance premium to the scheme that guarantees any client monies will be returned to them if the agent goes bust or disappears. Agents also need to be a member of NALS or ARLA.
